“Leaves for life” project

In the 1980s David Suzuki warned us that we needed to take immediate action to avoid dire effects of climate change.  I planted a ginkgo tree.

This was merely an opening move.  Now that I am a “Raging Granny”, the need for hiddur mitzvah is more vital than ever and the actions required must be overarching.

And yet my ginkgo flourishes and gifts us with shade in summer and distinctive leaves in autumn.

Ginkgo Biloba is the earth’s oldest living tree species, with fossils dating back 170 million years. It is wide-spread throughout the world and remarkably hardy as an urban shade tree. The Chinese name is “silver fruit” for the female tree’s seed pod; its Western name refers to its distinctive “bi-lobed” leaf. It may have medicinal uses.

Each leaf has been preserved from within and gilded with 12 layers of materials to keep it bright and pliable. It comes in seven tones and two sizes.  The pin is sewn to fine leather.

Your leaf is gift-boxed and as unique as yourself. A portion of each sale is donated to environmental sustainability.
