Baby Blanket for Timothy
Wool, silk, various fabrics and notions
Appliqué, stenciling, seminole patchwork,
69 x 91 cm. (27' x 36")
Text by Robert Munch: "I'll love you forever./I'll like you for always./As long as you're living, /My baby you'll be." The blanket bursts with personal imagery for the family. Bill's profes-sion as a landscape designer is evident, with each of the flowers representing a particular person.
The baseball that marks the beginning of the text indicates the couple's first date and ongo-ing passion for the sport; the tartan recalls their Scottish honeymoon; family names trickle among the flowers; the window looks to both past and future.
The border is designed to be added to by the owners as the years provide significant events and imagery.
