Honouring Our Parents...
Silk and various fabrics
Silk-screen, photo-transfer, stencilling and machine appliqué
Because the three offspring of the honoured parents worship in different congregations, each mantle in this set is a different fabric and coloring. They are linked through the text on the breastplate, which continues in Hebrew lines from Psalm 19 and repeats in English, "May your eyes sparkle with the light of Torah, and your ears hear the music of its words."
On the reverse side of the fabric breastplate and in the inset panels and binding are very personal elements: family photos and excerpts, in their own handwriting, from the extensive and touching correspondence between the parents during World War II.
