Holy Day Torah Mantles
Rayon, cotton, mixed fibres
Machine appliqué
5 mantles, each sized for a specific Torah
Commissioned by Holy Blossom Temple, Toronto ON
In the liturgy of the festivals for which these mantles are used, a link is made with specific types of precipitation. For example, the manna delivered by God, and associated particularly with the period from Pesach to Shavuot, is compared with tal (dew).
These mantles maintain the traditional white holy day and festivals exterior, while the inset panels reflect the literal and symbolic cleansing water imagery.
