Wedding Canopy for Congregation Beth Israel, Margate, NJ

Various fabrics and laces on sheer polyester
Appliqué, stencilling
267 x 310 cm. (8'9" x 10'2")

A magestic singing bird and a bower of leaves from intertwined trees suspends over the couple. Several design elements pertain to marriage, including the text, "No man without a woman. No couple without God's spirit." The lettering straddles a sun-symbol which forms the letter shin, indicating both God's name and nourishing spirit. The pomegranates further suggest growth and fruitfulness.

The fabric's transparency allows the light from the elaborate backdrop of stained glass to shimmer through the chuppah.
